Gideon Fink Shapiro, PhD

Senior Communications Strategist

Gideon Fink Shapiro brings a lifelong passion for public realm design to communicating the value and impact of NBW's work. He helps tell the place-based stories that NBW uncovers in the land, weaving the firm's commitment to research-driven design through publications and new business pursuits. He enjoys connecting clients, collaborators, and public audiences with the creative heart of the studio.

Trained as a landscape and architectural historian, Gideon advocates for design as a social good. His Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Pennsylvania examined public parks, gardens, and urban design in 19th-century Paris—research that deepens his affinity for NBW's approach to design at the intersection of cultural and ecological systems.

He has contributed to several books including Re-Living the City (2016), The New Residential Colleges at Yale (2018), and the forthcoming translation of Alphand’s Les Promenades de Paris (2027). He has written independently for Places JournalLandscape Architecture MagazineCurbedDomusNext CityNew York Review of ArchitectureThe Architect's NewspaperUntapped Journal, and other magazines.

Prior to joining NBW, he worked for several design firms and curated exhibitions at the Center for Architecture and 1014: Space for Ideas in New York. He enjoys reading and writing about landscapes almost as much as experiencing them in the flesh.
