Hither Hill Garden surrounds a two-structure residence in Montauk, NY. NBW worked with the architects and clients from the outset of this project to site the main house and guest house within lushly planted gardens. In collaboration with the clients and project architects, the two houses were positioned to take advantage of solar, hydrological system patterns, and ocean views. Terraces structured by stone walls extend the living areas from inside to out. Horticultural choices were informed by the local beach and woodland plant communities and included rugosa rose, goldenrod, and asters in the sunny borders, blueberries, and native azaleas under the existing scrub oaks. Responding to its topography, the garden exhibits a structured transition from the upper woodland plant communities to a beachscape palette.
