Christian Kochuba
Project Designer
Christian’s work and research is rooted in the belief that landscape is a powerful force of culture, steward of history, and haven for humans and non-humans alike. His passion for bringing people together, telling stories, and spotlighting the beauty of native ecosystems has inspired his work in a variety of public and civic projects — including Houston’s Memorial Park, Filoli Historic House and Gardens, the Houston Ismaili Center, and the Contemplative Commons, Dell, and Athletics Complex at the University of Virginia.
Christian joined Nelson Byrd Woltz in 2019, after receiving a master’s degree in landscape architecture and a Bachelor of Science in architecture from the University of Virginia where his work largely centered around social and ecological equity and material-driven fabrication. His previous experience and research include an award-winning proposal to remediate New Delhi’s Yamuna River through urban agriculture, visions for neighborhood-centered reclamation of Detroit’s industrial corridors, and community-driven design-build projects in Cambodia, Jamaica, and rural Montana. His prior professional experience has included public, private, and non-profit work at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, 100 Fold Studio, and Bushman Dreyfus Architects.
