Reclaiming the Edge

NBW is leading a transformative vision for Edge-on-Hudson Waterfront Park in Sleepy Hollow, New York. Situated on the former site of a General Motors assembly plant, this 15-acre park is being reimagined as a vital public space that reconnects the community to the Hudson River.

The design unfolds across three interconnected landscapes, each shaping a distinct experience along the waterfront:

The Promenade: Anchoring the park's southern edge, this sequence of paths, plazas, and gathering spaces transitions seamlessly from the urban street grid to open lawns at the river's edge. Sculpted berms and swales introduce gentle topographic shifts, enriching the spatial experience and enhancing stormwater management.

The Overlook: Located at the park's westernmost point, an amphitheater-style seating area frames expansive views of the Tappan Zee Bridge and the Manhattan skyline, offering a dramatic setting for intimate contemplation and community events.

Palisade Green: This landscape, yet to be constructed, will feature lawns and nature playscapes emerging from the circular footprints of the site’s former industrial storage tanks. A curving concrete and steel wall — an artifact of the site's manufacturing past — is repurposed, removing the concrete portion to create an interactive art installation, weaving history into the contemporary landscape.

A defining feature of the park is its public waterfront promenade, a critical link in the regional trail network. It extends the RiverWalk north while connecting to the historic 1883 Lighthouse at Sleepy Hollow and Kingsland Point Park.

NBW's design integrates resilient green infrastructure along the Hudson River's edge, mitigating flood risks and reinforcing ecological stewardship. Drawing from the site's geological foundations, industrial heritage, and sweeping riverfront vistas, Edge-on-Hudson Waterfront Park becomes a living narrative — one that honors the past while shaping a dynamic, sustainable future for Sleepy Hollow.
